At Breezer ("we", "our", or "us"), we value your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy App explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your data when you use the Breezer mobile application (the "App") and associated services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy App.

Full legal details are available in our Imprint. We have not appointed a data protection officer, as we are not required to do so.

1. Introduction

Breezer is an app designed to help users track their snus consumption, set personalized limits, and analyze their consumption habits over time. We understand the importance of your privacy, and this Privacy Policy App explains how we handle your personal information. We want to ensure complete transparency about what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

2. Information We Collect

We collect and process the following types of data to provide and improve our Service:

2.1 Personal Information

When you register and use the App, we collect the following personal data:

  • Email, username, and password: Used for account creation and authentication.
  • Profile picture (optional): You may choose to upload a profile picture for personalization within the app.
  • Country and currency (optional): If provided in Settings, used to localize your experience (e.g., pricing and statistics) and enable country-specific features such as regional channels. Country may be considered personal data because it can relate to your location.

2.2 Consumption and Quitting Data

We collect data related to your snus consumption and quitting progress, including:

  • Snus type, pack size, price per pack, and consumption limits: You can track your consumption by entering the type of snus, its pack size, and price.
  • Consumption events: Records each time you log your consumption.
  • Quitting mode data: The date you started quitting, progress toward goals, and derived achievement metrics such as money saved, time saved, and snus avoided.
  • Weekly, monthly, and yearly summaries: Insights into your usage, spending, and habits.
  • Health improvements display: Informational milestones based on studies. These are estimates for motivation only and may be inaccurate. They are not medical advice.

This information is processed only to deliver the app's functionality and to provide insights and motivation, and is used solely for tracking and analytical purposes.

2.3 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain technical data when you use the app, including:

  • Device information: Such as device type, model, manufacturer, app version, operating system version and language.
  • IP Address: For maintaining the security of our app.

2.4 Product Analytics

To understand how the app is used and where it can be improved, we record a limited set of usage events:

  • Which screens you open, and when you use the app.
  • Sign-up, login and your progress through onboarding.
  • Whether the Breezer Pro offer was shown to you and what you did with it.
  • Whether you are tracking or quitting, and when that changes.

Where you tell us how much you use during onboarding, we record only a range (for example "11-20"), never the exact figure.

These events are linked to an internal account identifier and your country. They are not linked to your email address or your username, and they never include your individual consumption entries, your chat messages or your uploaded images. See Section 7 for how to switch this off.

As with any internet request, our analytics provider receives your device's IP address in order to receive the data at all. We have switched off the provider's location lookup, so your IP address is not used to derive your city or region.

2.5 Crash and Error Reports

When the app crashes or hits an error, we receive a diagnostic report: the technical error, your device and app version, and a trail of what the app was doing beforehand. We do not attach your account identifier, email address or IP address to these reports, and they do not contain your consumption entries or chat messages.

2.6 Community and Social Data

To provide global and country channels, mentions, and social features, we process:

  • Chat content and metadata: Messages you send, mentions, timestamps, and channel membership. Channel messages are visible to participants and may be public to all users depending on channel type.
  • Friends and notifications preferences: Which friends may receive updates about your activity when enabled, and your opt-in/opt-out status for notifications.
  • Push notification tokens: Device tokens used to deliver notifications via Expo Push Notifications API.
  • Moderation signals: Reports, blocks, and enforcement actions to keep the community safe.
  • Image files: Images uploaded to community chat (stored via Appwrite Cloud Storage).
  • Emoji reaction data: Which emoji you reacted to and on which message.
  • Automated activity announcements: System messages posted on your behalf when you reach certain milestones or change your quitting mode. These appear in community chat and include your username and avatar.

2.7 Third-Party Content

The app includes a community feed that displays publicly available posts from Reddit via the Reddit API. Breezer does not store Reddit content permanently; it is fetched and cached temporarily for display purposes. No Reddit account or credentials are required. Reddit's own privacy policy governs content on their platform.

3. Purpose of Data Collection

We use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • Account creation and authentication: Your email, username, and password help create and secure your account.
  • Personalization and localization: The profile picture helps personalize your experience. Country and currency (if provided) help localize prices, statistics, and enable regional features.
  • Statistics, insights, and motivation: Consumption and quitting data provide insights, achievements, and motivational milestones.
  • Community features: To operate chats, country channels, mentions, and social visibility, and to keep the community safe through moderation.
  • Notifications: To send opt-in updates to you and (if enabled) to your friends using Expo Push Notifications.
  • Product analytics: To understand how the app is used, which features people reach, and where they get stuck, so we can improve it.
  • Stability and security: To detect, diagnose and fix crashes and errors, and to protect the app against abuse.

We do not use your data for personalized marketing, ads, or sharing with third parties for advertising purposes.

4. Sharing of Data with Third Parties

We may share your data with the following third parties to help provide and improve our Service:

  • Appwrite Cloud (for data storage and management): We use Appwrite Cloud to store and manage user data. Appwrite ensures secure data handling practices and complies with relevant data protection standards.
  • RevenueCat (for subscription management): RevenueCat manages your Breezer Pro subscription status. Your actual payment is processed by Apple or Google, depending on your platform; we never see or store your payment card details.
  • Expo Push Notifications (for notifications delivery): Used to send push notifications to your devices. Only device tokens and necessary metadata are shared for delivery.
  • Appwrite Cloud Storage (for image storage): Images uploaded in community chat are stored via Appwrite Cloud Storage.
  • PostHog (for product analytics): Receives the usage events described in Section 2.4. Processed on PostHog's European Union infrastructure.
  • Sentry (for crash and error reporting): Receives the diagnostic reports described in Section 2.5. Processed on Sentry's European Union infrastructure.
  • Reddit (for the community feed): The app requests publicly available posts from the Reddit API for display. See Section 2.7.
  • ui-avatars.com (for fallback profile images): If you have not uploaded a profile picture, the app generates a placeholder avatar from your initials. Your username is included in that image request.
  • Expo (for app updates): The app checks Expo's update service for new versions, which involves your device's IP address and an installation identifier.

We ensure that all third parties we work with take appropriate security measures to protect your data. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks.

5. User Rights and Data Control

You have the following rights and control over your personal data:

  • Profile management: You can update your profile picture, country, currency, and consumption/quitting data directly through the app.
  • Friends controls: You can choose to add/remove friends and to share consumption details like when a snus has been taken whith them.
  • Notifications control: You can opt in or out of push notifications anytime in Settings or via your device settings.
  • Analytics control: You can stop sharing usage data at any time under Settings -> Policies -> Share usage data. Switching it off stops all product analytics collection from your device immediately, and does not affect any other part of the app.
  • Data deletion: If you wish to delete your account and associated data, you can do so by sending an email to info@breezer.now or by going to Settings -> Account Settings -> Delete Account in the app.
  • Data access: You can request a summary of the data we hold about you. Please contact us at info@breezer.now to submit such a request.

6. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously. To protect your personal information, we use the following security practices:

  • Encryption: Your data is stored securely using encryption provided by Appwrite Cloud.
  • Access control: Only authorized personnel have access to your data.
  • Regional storage: We aim to store data within the region where Appwrite Cloud operates for your workspace. Push notification delivery is handled by Expo, which may process data across regions solely to deliver notifications.
  • Analytics and crash data: Product analytics are processed by PostHog on their European Union infrastructure, and crash reports by Sentry on their European Union infrastructure. Neither is transferred outside the EU by us.

While we take all reasonable precautions to protect your data, please note that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we strive to implement robust security measures.

7. Analytics and Tracking Technologies

The Breezer app does not use cookies or advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not track your activity for marketing or advertising purposes. There are no ads in the app.

We do use two services to keep the app working and to improve it:

  • PostHog for product analytics, so we can see how the app is used. The events it records are described in Section 2.4. Screen recording is switched off, and we do not automatically capture what you type or tap.
  • Sentry for crash and error reporting, so we can find and fix things that break. What it receives is described in Section 2.5.

You can turn product analytics off at any time under Settings -> Policies -> Share usage data. Switching it off stops all analytics collection from your device and does not affect any other part of the app. Crash reporting is not covered by this toggle, because we need it to keep the app usable for everyone.

8. Policy Changes and Notification

We may update this Privacy Policy App from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. If we make significant changes to how we handle your data, we will notify you through the app, by email, or through app store updates. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy App periodically for any updates.

9. Legal Bases for Processing

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): Creating and securing your account, storing and displaying your consumption and quitting data, operating community features, and managing your Breezer Pro subscription. Without this processing the app cannot do what you installed it for.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): Push notifications, and sharing your activity with friends. You can withdraw either at any time in Settings, with effect for the future.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): Product analytics, crash and error reporting, and security logging. Our legitimate interest is understanding and improving the app, keeping it stable, and protecting it against abuse. You may object to product analytics at any time by switching off Share usage data in Settings, which stops that processing immediately.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR): Where we are required to retain or disclose data, for example in response to a lawful request.

10. Your Rights Under Data Protection Laws

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA) or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right to access: You have the right to access the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: You can request to correct any inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure: You may request that we delete your data under certain conditions.
  • Right to restriction: You may ask us to limit the use of your data.
  • Right to portability: You can request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to withdraw consent: If you provided consent for the processing of your data, you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): You may object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including product analytics.
  • Right to lodge a complaint (Art. 77 GDPR): You may complain to a supervisory authority. Ours is the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Ă–sterreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at), but you may also complain to the authority where you live or work.

For more details or to exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@breezer.now.

11. Marketing and Promotional Communications

At present, Breezer does not engage in sending promotional communications, but this may change in the future. If we do send you marketing emails, you will have the option to opt-out by clicking the "unsubscribe" link in the email or updating your preferences in the app settings. Push notifications are sent only with your consent and can be disabled at any time in Settings or via your device settings.

12. Data Retention

We will retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, we will delete all associated data as per our retention policy. Certain minimal logs (e.g., security and moderation logs) may be retained for a limited period as required for safety, fraud prevention, and legal compliance. Product analytics events and crash reports are retained only for the retention period configured in the respective service and are then deleted automatically. Because analytics events are not linked to your email address, deleting your account does not require us to delete them individually; you can stop new events being collected at any time using the toggle described in Section 7.

13. Children's Privacy

Breezer is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18, in line with our End-User License Agreement. If you are under 18, please do not use the app. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from someone under 18, we will take steps to delete that data. Community features are moderated but may expose users to content shared by others; parental guidance is advised.
